Week 4- The Promise of Love

Dec. 19th  The Promise of LOVE

Yesterday was the start of the 4th week of advent. Did that go by fast or is it just me? I am back home at my parent’s house for the week. There is something special about “coming home” to a place with so many memories of Christmas.

Wherever you are, I hope that you can discover the little joys this season that truly make this a special time of year

Week 1- The Promise of HOPE

Week 2- The Promise of PEACE

Week 3- The Promise of JOY

Week 4- The Promise of LOVE.

This morning, on the last day of The Promise of LOVE-

My pastor did a sermon about the shepherds in the Christmas story- I hope it brings you encouragement for you as much as it did for me

Luke 2:8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Did you ever wonder why God chose the shepherds to first break the news of birth of the His Son, the world’s Savior?

Shepherds were the social outcasts and did the work no one wanted to do. They had to work 24/7 to take care of the animals so people labeled them uneducated and unreligious. They were the lowest part of society.

Why wouldn’t He choose people of more stature? Why not start at the top with the religious elite- surely they would get the announcement out quicker than the shepherds.

But, God selectively delivered the news to the shepherds because He wants to send a message- THERE IS NO ONE TOO INSIGNIFICANT TO HIM. NO ONE IS IVISVIBLE TO GOD.

It was His declaration that He has a plan for everyone.

It goes on in Luke to say, LUKE 2:15-18

The shepherds go to find Jesus, their hearts transformed and they became GOSPEL carriers. It says, they spread the word concerning what had been told them of this child, and all who heard were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

My pastor then went on to say this:

“The Christmas story is God’s story, but it becomes our story because He wrote us into it.”

The shepherds represent US in the story. We are not invisible to God. The Story of Christmas is for US.

When we humble our hearts, we will become overwhelmed with wonder and AWE this Christmas season, because when we KNOW how much GOD LOVES US, we want to go share the good news.

Today, choose one relationship to focus on this week. It might be a spouse, a child, a parent or coworkers, a friend. Filter every interaction with this person through one questions “What does love require of me in this moment?” Then do it.

Let LOVE dictate your demeanor, your body language, your words, your actions.

Dec. 23rd- Daily Destiny with Jessie B.

Good morning and welcome to Daily Destiny with Jessie B. I am Jessie Christensen and this morning I am continuing on The Promise of Christmas Series with ending with the Promise of Love with a quick encouragement for you this morning.

Week 1- The Promise of HOPE

Week 2- The Promise of PEACE

Week 3- The Promise of JOY

Week 4- The Promise of LOVE.

1 John 4:19 “We were loved, now we love. He loved us first”

God always takes the initiative. He blessed first, He served first, and most of all, loved first.

Then, it is up to us. How will we respond this season and into 2017.

During this season, while much of the world is captivated by distractions and smaller loves, lets’ seek to discover once more our first love, the love that “came down at Christmas,”

Then, let’s share that love by blessing, serving, and comforting others in this season and into 2017.

Take 10 minutes today. Ten minutes. Make the first five minutes of space and stillness and silence with just God. Then make the five minutes of space for someone else, and let that person fill all your attention. INVITE God and His love to dwell in you today.
